Learning Through Trust, Growing Through Exploration.

At United Education International School (UEIS) , we firmly believe in the value of holistic education. A child’s growth and the development of social-emotional skills come not only from knowledge acquired in the classroom, but also from every authentic experience and challenge they encounter.

This time, UEIS’s Multidisciplinary Exploration Program led students beyond the classroom to Lanyang Green Horseland for an immersive learning experience that combined horseback riding, safety education, and character development. Through this journey, we hope to show parents why true leadership often begins without saying a single word.

For students in Grades 6 through 12, who are at a critical stage of personal development, UEIS is committed to providing a personalized learning environment and a supportive community. We regard multidisciplinary exploration as an essential part of education, with the goal of helping students transform classroom knowledge into the abilities needed to navigate the real world.

Many people view horseback riding simply as a recreational activity. However, from UEIS’s educational perspective, it is an adventure into the natural world filled with uncertainty. When students leave the familiarity of the classroom and step outside their comfort zones to face horses—animals that are large, powerful, and full of strength—the first challenge they must overcome is their own fear and uncertainty. Every opportunity to step beyond campus, whether through nature exploration, outdoor adventures, or sports experiences, serves as an important opportunity for UEIS students to broaden their global perspectives, build self-efficacy, and develop confidence.

During this equestrian exploration program, the first lesson that left the greatest impression on students was that the experience did not begin by simply getting on a horse. Instead, it began by learning how to build a connection with another living being. Under the guidance of professional instructors, students gradually came to understand that horses are not tools to be controlled at will by humans, but living creatures capable of feeling emotions and requiring trust to be built.

In today’s world, children are accustomed to the instant feedback and complete control offered by digital technology. At the horse ranch, however, those rules no longer apply. Students first had to understand the nature and behavior of horses, strictly follow safety protocols, and learn to communicate through nonverbal interaction. This process of letting go of the desire for control and learning to understand another living being is exactly how UEIS nurtures students’ social-emotional competencies and empathy.

Horses are highly sensitive animals that can quickly perceive the emotional state of their riders. When students felt nervous, impatient, or distracted, the horses immediately responded with signs of uneasiness. Conversely, when students learned to take deep breaths, regulate their emotions, and focus on each movement, the horses responded calmly and steadily. This emotional mirror allowed students to realize that before expecting others to cooperate with them, they must first learn to manage their own emotions and state of mind.

Throughout their interactions with the horses and during the riding experience, students underwent a profound transformation in their understanding of leadership. Traditional beliefs may suggest that leadership is about giving orders. Yet on horseback, students discovered that true leadership is not about commanding from above, but about building trust. It is not about demanding unquestioning obedience, but about inspiring others to willingly move forward together through stability, respect, and understanding.

Once the riding session began, students had to continuously observe the horse’s movements, adjust their balance, and make immediate decisions in response to changing conditions. Although the lesson appeared to focus on equestrian techniques, it was, in reality, an opportunity for students to strengthen their concentration, emotional regulation, physical coordination, and adaptability in a high-pressure and unpredictable environment.

The sense of responsibility, patient observation, and teamwork that students developed at the horse ranch do not disappear when the lesson ends. These invaluable intangible qualities naturally become part of their daily school life. At UEIS, we believe that every exploration is an opportunity for growth. What students bring home is not merely an unforgettable horseback riding experience, but also the confidence and leadership they will carry with them as they embrace future challenges at leading universities and on the international stage.
