A Hands-On Learning Journey at Yilan Train Station
During the recent Transportation–Workplace Experience class led by Tr. Jacob, we go on a lively and engaging journey to Yilan Train Station. Unlike traditional classroom lessons, this Transportation class mainly focus on outdoor learning experience, allowed the students to directly observe different transportations. This time the students witnessed the daily operations of a train station and interacted with both staff and travelers through bilingual interviews in English and Chinese.
The students worked in groups to prepare insightful interview questions such as, “How often do you take the train?” and “How long have you been working here?” Although some students felt nervous at first, they gradually gained confidence through real-world conversations with station employees and passengers. This hands-on approach not only improved their spoken English but also helped them become more comfortable expressing themselves in unfamiliar situations.
Beyond conducting interviews, the students actively captured a variety of photos on trains, platforms, timetables, and different types of train. Of course, a cheerful group photos to remember the day. Back at school, the students will collaborate on group presentations, organize everything they learned and the insights from their interviews.
Through this immersive field study, the students gained a deeper understanding of the responsibilities of train station staff and train drivers, as well as the perspectives and suggestions of passengers.
