Small Stature, Big Vision: A G11 Student’s Quest for Excellence
Ian Tsai, a Grade 11 student at United Education International School (UEIS), brings a diverse educational background from his time at an international school in Japan. Immersed in our American-style education, Ian has consistently demonstrated exceptional linguistic proficiency, achieving a perfect score of 9.0 in IELTS Speaking and a remarkable overall band score of 8.0. However, true to the UEIS spirit of academic excellence, Ian refuses to rest on his laurels, embodying a profound passion for lifelong learning.
In the personalized learning environment at UEIS, we see more than just a transcript; we see an evolving learner who thrives on self-challenge. Through close teacher-student relationships and professional mentorship, we are confident that students like Ian are destined to become luminous leaders at top universities worldwide and on the global stage.
Independent Thinking and Leadership: A Giant Mind
Despite his modest stature, Ian possesses the independent thinking and unwavering resolve of a giant. He maintains a vibrant personality on campus—playful yet deeply focused. Under the guidance of our holistic education framework, these traits have led him beyond the classroom to the COP30 UN Climate Change Conference this November, where he showcased exemplary leadership and social responsibility.
As one of the world's most influential climate summits, COP30 was held in the heart of the Amazon—Belém, Brazil—under the theme "Climate is Life: Region of Solutions," focusing on the sustainable coexistence of humanity and nature.
Practicing Global Vision: A Journey of 800 Kilometers
Representing his community alongside two youth partners, Ian undertook a grueling 100-hour journey covering over 800 kilometers to reach Belém. Rather than sightseeing, Ian immediately engaged in grassroots action—venturing into the Amazon rainforest to observe environmental issues firsthand and advocate for climate action.
For Ian, this journey represents a vital link between the American-style curriculum and real-world global issues. Far more valuable than any grade is the global perspective, cross-cultural communication skills, and the ability to translate knowledge into action cultivated through UEIS’s globally-minded education.
The Significance of COP30: Cultivating Future Global Leaders
This year’s COP30 aligns perfectly with the UEIS vision to empower students as responsible, engaged citizens of the world. The summit focused on:
From Commitment to Action: Strengthening the capacity to contribute to society.
Climate Adaptation and Inclusive Collaboration: Fostering collaboration within a supportive community.
Forest Protection and Biodiversity.
Low-carbon Transition and Sustainable Solutions.
These themes resonate with the mission shared by Ian and his peers: "We don't just observe the world; we possess the power to change it."
Beyond Grades: Holistic Growth and Personal Development
Ian’s story reaffirms the core values of UEIS: success is not defined solely by scores or certificates. Within our safe and nurturing boarding environment, we encourage students to step out of their comfort zones, understand global dynamics, and become catalysts for positive change.
In our personalized and globally-oriented community, we know Ian is forging his own path. It may be a challenging one, but with our guidance and support, it is a profound journey toward global success.
